ALL ACCESS SUCCESS
WLC’s first ALL ACCESS event at our new clubhouse, the Terminal City Club, a WLC founding gold sponsor, was a huge success. “Commanding, engaging, real, informative… The energy in the room was amazing!” were just some of the great comments we received.
If you missed it, Gayle Hallgren-Rezac and WLC vice-chair, Judy Thomson, facilitated an engaged conversational “exercise” entitled A Smartie for Your Thoughts. These WLC advisory board members acted as table hosts:
- Bev Van Ruyven, BC Hydro
- Carol Lee, LINACARE Cosmetherapy Inc.
- Darcy Rezac, The Vancouver Board of Trade
- Elise Rees, Ernst & Young LLP
- Evi Mustel, Mustel Group
- Filomena Nalewajek, Canuck Place Children’s Hospice
- Ida Goodreau, Vancouver Coastal Health Authority
- Yvonne DeValone, Rare Indigo Ventures Inc.
- Tracy Campbell, The Vancouver Board of Trade
Special thanks to Joanne Ferreiro (The Humphrey Group), Lisa Martin (author, Briefcase Moms), Councillor Suzanne Anton and Lynn Roberts, vice-president, human resources of founding gold sponsor, Coast Capital Savings for being terrific hosts at their tables. Read more about the event here.
Watch for more ALL ACCESS events including a Menu of Conversation dinner.
At the WLC ALL ACCESS Event, Gayle and Judy reminded us that most people are uncomfortable coming to networking events alone. Here are two easy rules they suggest we follow for all WLC events.
#1. Rescue wallflowers. If you see someone standing alone, rescue that person. There will be no wallflowers at WLC events!
#2. Open the circle. Have you ever had the experience of walking over to a group and not being welcomed in? At all WLC events we will open the circle and invite people into our conversations.
THE POWER OF WOMEN
Practice these “rules” at the all-day Power of Women event on November 6, a great event to get inspired – and who doesn’t need that right now? Here is just one of the fantastic stories you’ll hear that day.
In 1996, 37-year-old Jill Bolte Taylor experienced a massive stroke when a blood vessel exploded in the left side of her brain. Jill’s story is an eye-opening account of how she regained her life, and is made all the more fascinating because she is a Harvard-trained brain scientist. Jill Bolte Taylor is just one of the remarkable women speakers at this all-day event.
And is everybody ready for a few laughs right now? Joy Behar will deliver! The information you will take away from the Power of Women – everything from communication strategies from mountain climber and Wall Street survivor Alison Levine, to teamwork with Cassie Campbell – is going to make this a day to remember.
And, if that isn’t enough, WLC members attending the full day Power of Women event can attend the WLC hosted luncheon at the Terminal City Club from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. This is a terrific opportunity to meet other WLC members and some special guests before you head back to the Vancouver Convention and Exhibition Centre for the afternoon speakers. To make sure we save room for you, please register for the luncheon by sending an email to Lesley at reservations@boardoftrade.com.
WHO DOESN’T LOVE A DEAL?
Do you have someone you know who wants to join The Vancouver Board of Trade and the WLC? Well, this is the perfect time. If they join now they have a chance to get a free ticket to the Power of Women day and attend the luncheon. Contact Fiona Douglas-Crampton at fdc@boardoftrade.com to learn more.
AWARENESS DAY IS OCTOBER 30
